True and Samantha’s Wedding – Roberts Restaurant, Tower Lodge Hunter Valley

Tuesday, March 2nd, 2010

Since meeting True and Samantha over a year ago, we developed a working relationship that turned quickly into a friendship. Both from “rural” Sydney, they are open, honest and always ready with a laugh. I photographed their e-session in Luna Park last year and have since met and photographed their wonderful family. They had carefully planned every detail of their wedding in the vineyards of Roberts Restaurant in the Hunter Valley. I met them at the nearby Tower Lodge, which is packed with old-world character and charm.

Emilia the flower girl was the cutest thing I’ve ever seen:

Every room at Tower Lodge has its own unique style – from 300-year-old four poster beds to antique vases and fireplaces, it was a real pleasure to photograph.

Samantha attached a locket to her bouquet given to her by her late great-grandmother. The rings were presented in a hand made ceramic dish – such a special touch.

With her wild, dramatic curls and radiant smile, Samantha achieved “diva” status! Her unique, flowing gown was designed by Karen Willis Holmes.

Mum admiring her beautiful daughter:

I love capturing timeless moments like these – Sam’s father handing her over to True:

The bride requested a “Beatles album cover” shot:

This photo just makes me smile.

It wouldn’t be their wedding without a bit of silliness!

True is a very keen cyclist (and even rode from North Sydney to Manly to pick up Sam’s engagement ring). Everything was bike-themed. Even the guest book was an old paperback that Samantha sourced from a vintage store overseas.

Congratulations True and Samantha!

Gaurav and Swarthi’s Indian Wedding – Nurragingy Reserve, Crystal Room Paradiso Fairfield

Wednesday, February 24th, 2010

Gaurav and Swarthi’s wedding was a grand affair filled with joy, love and tradition. The reception followed the next day, starting with some fun photos in Nurragingy Reserve and continuing into the evening at Crystal Room Paradiso with plenty of food, laughter and dancing. Here are some of my favourites from the two days.

Swarthi looked stunning in her vibrant fuchsia wedding saree:

Their backyard had been converted into a grand wedding venue, decorated exquisitely by Masters Mandaps.

Gaurav arrived amidst a roar of powerful car motors and smoking rubber, as his friends drove up the street in a convoy of seriously hot cars and bikes:

I think I need to start making more friends who own Ferrari’s:

Some beautiful moments during the ceremony:

An emotional farewell as Swarthi leaves her family as a new bride:

I met Gaurav, Swarthi and their best friends at Nurragingy reserve the following afternoon for some fun and relaxed pre-reception photos.

The guys were looking bored so I made them do a little exercise.

The breathtaking, grand Crystal Room Paradiso:

Did someone say ‘party’ ?

I love how the room lights change colour!

Congratulations Gaurav and Swarthi!

Jak and Sally’s e-session – The Rocks, Circular Quay

Monday, February 8th, 2010

Jak and Sally chose The Rocks for their e-session playground as it was where they first met. They were all smiles and as we wandered through the city I felt as if I was catching up with old friends.

I love this sequence – very cheeky!

Sally is somewhat obsessed with the colour pink, and for this I am grateful after seeing her vibrant top jump off the screen in the photos.

I love exploring the Rocks – at times you feel as if you’re wandering through Prague or Venice. I think this image exemplifies that feeling.

Seriously… Sally’s top just pops!

They’re such a sweet couple – their wedding on board the breathtaking Bella Vista next month is going to be a blast!

Amro and Gauri’s e-session – Newtown

Tuesday, February 2nd, 2010

When Gauri and Amro asked me to photograph their e-session in Newtown, I could barely contain my excitement. Their playful nature and utter inability to last for more than five seconds without cracking up laughing, combined with the energy and vibrant colour and textures of Newtown promised to result in some fantastic images. Here are a few of my favourites from the day.

Note for photographers: Most of these photos made use of off-camera lighting. Taking your flash off camera gives you the ability to add another dimension to your images – you are in control of the light.

I love the energy of this image.

My absolute favourite from the day.

Thanks for a great afternoon guys, I’m looking forward to the laughter and joy at your wedding in September.

Matt and Beck’s Silly Session – The Rocks, Sydney Opera House, Sydney Harbour Bridge

Monday, February 1st, 2010

Nothing can prepare you for the sheer silliness of Matt and Beck.

Beneath all the crazy, Matt and Beck share a warm-and-fuzzy love.

Beck: “Can Matt chase me around a tree like he does at home?”

Beck to me: “Make sure you get some photos of me poking my tongue out”.

My hands-down favourite from the afternoon:

Thanks for the great afternoon Matt and Beck – I can’t wait for the wedding!

Elvyn and Nish’s Indian Wedding – Sydney Opera House, Sydney Harbour Bridge, The Rocks

Wednesday, January 27th, 2010

Elvyn and Nish are down to earth with a strong sense of family, and maintain a deep love and respect for one another. Our conversations leading up to the wedding as well as during their e-session earlier in the year were less about wedding talk and more about our lives and families. Their wedding day was no different – amidst the flurry of activity around Nish as she was getting dressed and made-up, she still sported a wide, cheeky grin.

Elvyn, as always, presented a calm and collected exterior.

We then met up a block away from Nish’s house where the ceremony was to be held – I think this is the most action Pennant Hills has ever seen!

Nish looked flawless:

Married!

We then drove into the heart of the city for some photos around The Rocks and Sydney Opera House:

Sometimes the natural, spotaneous photos turn out the best. I love the mood of this photo.

Congratulations Elvyn and Nish! Stay tuned for part 2 – the reception.

Pranil and Vijita’s e-session – Nurragingy Reserve Doonside

Monday, December 21st, 2009

Last week I drove up to the spacious Nurragingy Reserve in Doonside for Vijita and Pranil’s pre-wedding photo session. They are shy, calm and contemplative and share a close connection.

I chose to present these images in a moody, soft style which I feel mirrors Vijita and Pranil’s quiet and tender relationship.

Sebastien and Gisella’s Wedding – Centennial Vineyards, Bowral

Wednesday, December 16th, 2009

Last weekend I travelled down to the Southern Highlands for Sebastien and Gisella’s wedding. Gisella’s family friend had graciously allowed them to use their huge farm in Robertson for the ceremony.

Gisella designed her own dress, with a long, flowing train and intricate lace work.

She even designed her bouquet:

I stopped by Sebastien’s rented home in Robertson to find him and his family exchanging excited banter in French. Sebastien is such a romantic; I asked him, “how are you feeling?”, to which he replied, “Lucky”.

In true country style, Sebastien’s vows were interrupted by the loud horn of a passing country train, which had everyone in stitches:

We then moved onto the charming and rustic Centennial Vineyards in Bowral for the intimate reception.

Some fun in the vineyards:

Gisella’s Italian heritage manifested itself in the form of a delicious icecream gelato cake – brilliant idea!

Sebastien and Gisella are overflowing with love for each other and their families. It was very endearing seeing Sebastien and his family speak in broken English; despite this the sincerity and beauty of the words were not lost.
